Adoption Process
Our goal is a lasting match. We take the time to get to know each horse and each adopter, so the horse lands somewhere they can thrive.
How It Works
Browse
Read our horses’ profiles and note who might fit your experience, goals, and herd.
Apply
Fill out the application below. It helps us understand your experience and your setup.
Talk & visit
We’ll set up a conversation and, when possible, a visit to meet the horse in person.
Home check
We confirm the horse will have safe fencing, shelter, and at least one equine companion.
Welcome home
Sign the adoption agreement, plan transport, and stay in touch. We’re here for questions for life.
Common Questions
Is there an adoption fee?
Yes. Adoption fees vary by horse and help cover the care they received while with us. Each horse’s fee is shared when you apply.
Do I need experience with Icelandic horses?
Not always. Some of our horses are great for people new to the breed. Others need an experienced Icelandic rider. We’ll help you find a good fit.
Can I adopt if I live far away?
We work with adopters across the United States. Distance can affect visits and transport, so tell us where you are and we’ll talk through it.
What if it doesn’t work out?
Horses we place can always come back to us. Our adoption agreement asks that you contact us first if you can no longer keep the horse.
Why do you require a companion?
Icelandic horses are herd animals and can be stressed when kept alone. Every horse we place goes to a home with at least one other equine.
